Counselors-In-Training Camp (Grade 10-11)

OVERNIGHT CAMP CIT PROGRAM

Youth Camp USA Counselors-in-Training Program is a 4-week co-ed residential experience designed to provide leadership opportunities that prepare teens to become staff members at camp, as well as productive members of their home community. The CIT program includes: internship in all aspects of a counselor’s job at camp, participation in service projects, training sessions on such topics as basic child development and behavior management, counseling techniques and best practices, communication and leadership, environmental stewardship, and community service. CITs also embark on a three day canoeing and backpacking adventure in the Delaware Water Gap that focuses on leadership and teamwork, as well as offering a worthwhile personal challenge for campers.

CIT applicants must be completing the 10th OR 11th grade. Applicants must complete the CIT application before being considered for the program. Entry into the program is competitive and is based upon the completed application and an interview with the camp director. Please note that a camper is required to attend only one 4-week CIT session to complete the program.

DAY CAMP CIT PROGRAM

The Day Camp CIT Program is a 4-week experience designed to provide leadership opportunities that prepare teens to become staff members at camp or elsewhere, as well as productive members of their community. The CIT program includes: internship in all aspects of a counselor’s job at camp, participation in service projects, training sessions on such topics as basic child development and behavior management, counseling techniques and best practices, communication and leadership, environmental stewardship, and community service.

Both of Youth Camp USA CIT programs are designed to enhance interpersonal and communication skills while fostering independence and self-awareness. Service is also an important part of the CIT program; we believe that service to others, whether individually or in a community, is an essential character value at camp and at home. Successful participants will come away from this program with valuable leadership skills that will serve them well at home, in school, and in their own community. CIT’s are considered campers for the CIT program while preparing for their future potential opportunities as camp counselors.
